Enzymes in the mdp-1 family are acid phosphatases. Although a characterized family member from mouse has been shown to hydrolyze phosphorylated tyrosine residues of proteins, the biologically relelvant substrate for this family has not been identified. Mg2+ is required as a cofactor.

Selengut, J.D.
