Metal ligands in the galactarate dehydratase subgroup include an Asp, Glu, and His. An Arg-X-Tyr motif (which forms a Tyr-Arg dyad) is located at the end of the second beta strand. In addition, the structurally characterized member of this subgroup (e.g., 2OQY) has been shown to bind a second Mg2+. Currently, the only family in the galactarate dehydratase subgroup is galactarate dehydratase.
