This group contains many archaeal sequences and some thermophilic bacteria. It includes structurally characterized member 3M20 (DmpI from Archaeoglobus fulgidus). The electrostatic potential of the 3M20 active site suggests it may accommodate a hydrophobic substrate. It has modest 1,3-keto-enol tautomerase activity, and prefers monocarboxylated substrates where the non-carboxylate end of the molecule is hydrophobic.
