Members of this family are involved in the biosynthesis of aminofutalosine, a key intermediate in the formation of menaquinone (vitamin K2), from chorismate. It is proposed that the SAM molecule is utilized stoichiometrically in the mechanism (see PMID: 24083939). Other than the SAM binding cysteine residues, the full complement of catalytic residues remains to be elucidated.
