The structurally distinct, FMN-dependent nitroreductase-like (NTR) superfamily is comprised of enzymes that are typically 25 kDa, and dimeric, forming two discrete active sites at the dimer interface. The canonical reaction ascribed to the NTR family involves the oxidation of an electron donor, such as NAD(P)H and the ensuing reduction of an electron acceptor, e.g., a nitroaromatic compound, which occurs via an electron shuttle involving flavin mononucleotide (FMN).
